Donald Trump soundalike delivers pro-immigrant speech in Bad Bunny video

Bad Bunny is supporting the immigrant community in a new music video — and using a familiar voice to deliver his message.

The Puerto Rican pop superstar dropped the video for “NuevaYol,” the opening track from his new album Debí Tirar Más Fotos, on July 4. About three-quarters of the way through the video, the song screeches to a halt, as the video shows four men listening to a boombox.

The boombox isn’t playing music, though — instead, it’s blasting a speech delivered by a voice that sounds almost exactly like Donald Trump. 

“I made a mistake,” the voice says. “I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. I mean the United States, I know America is the whole continent. I want to say that this country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans—”

The four men then shake their heads, turn the boombox off, and walk away.

The speech doesn’t match any of the 47th president’s public addresses that can be found online (and its pro-immigrant message certainly doesn’t match Trump’s usual anti-immigrant rhetoric), so it’s safe to assume that this isn’t actually a recording of the real Trump.

That means the video recreated Trump’s voice, presumably using one of two methods: a voice actor doing an impression of the president, or an AI program simulating his voice. Representatives for Bad Bunny did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for clarification.

Aside from the provocative boombox scene, the “NuevaYol” video also contains a multitude of lively imagery, including Bad Bunny hanging the Puerto Rican flag off of the head of the Statue of Liberty and a long sequence of the singer attending a quinceañera.

Bad Bunny has publicly clashed the Trump administration and its allies in the past. Shortly after Tony Hinchcliffe’s offensive jab at Puerto Rico at a Trump rally in October, the musician shared a video celebrating his homeland to his Instagram Stories and endorsed Kamala Harris for the presidency. In January, the musician called out Hinchcliffe’s racist joke in an interview with Time, stating, “All those racist people, at that moment, [it] gives them empowerment for a joke.”

More recently, Bad Bunny slammed the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Puerto Rico. “They’re here in Pontezuela. Sons of bitches, instead of letting the people alone and working,” he said of officers’ presence in Carolina.

Bad Bunny’s forthcoming world tour will also exclude the United States from its schedule entirely. When asked why he’s skipping over the U.S., the musician simply responded: “It’s unnecessary.”
