Officer Christopher Bisceglia was going about his routine when a small Scottish Terrier came racing toward him out of nowhere. The little dog was frantic, barking nonstop and tugging urgently at his pant leg. Something wasn’t right, and the officer could feel it.
Instead of brushing him off, Officer Bisceglia trusted his instincts and followed the determined pup across a wide, empty field. The dog ran with purpose, only pausing to make sure the officer was still behind him. When they reached a frozen embankment, the dog stopped at the edge and looked down. That’s when the officer saw her.
Another Scottish Terrier, snow-covered and shivering, was trapped below the icy slope. She looked up but couldn’t move. Without wasting time, Officer Bisceglia radioed for help. The local fire department arrived shortly after to assist with the rescue.
As it turns out, the two dogs are siblings, Jacques and Annabelle. Their story was as heartbreaking as it was touching. Earlier that day, their elderly owner had been rushed to the hospital. Somehow, Jacques and Annabelle had gotten out of the house. While exploring the unfamiliar area, Annabelle had slipped and become stranded on the icy bank. Jacques didn’t panic. Instead, he ran for help, and he found the right person just in time.
Annabelle had a few minor injuries but was otherwise okay, thanks to her brave brother and a compassionate officer who chose to listen to her. “Annabelle wouldn’t have made it through the night if it wasn’t for Jacques getting help when he did,” the animal control officer shared.
Both dogs are now safe and warm under the care of animal control while they wait for their owner to recover. For now, they’re sticking close together, grateful to be reunited.
Jacques’ quick thinking and Officer Bisceglia’s kind heart turned what could have been a tragedy into a beautiful story of love, loyalty, and rescue. There’s no doubt that both of them are heroes.
