When Opposites Meet, the Outcome Is Surprisingly Sweet
On a farm in Idaho Falls, something extraordinary happened—two Guinness World Record holders met for the very first time. One stood as tall as a small horse, while the other was barely bigger than an apple. Reginald, a towering 7-year-old Great Dane, and Pearl, a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, couldn’t have been more different in size. But that didn’t stop them from sniffing, wagging, and prancing their way through a two-day meet-up filled with surprising friendship and gentle curiosity.

Guinness Brings Two Record-Holders Together
The unique playdate was arranged by Guinness World Records, who brought the world’s tallest and smallest living dogs face to face on Reginald’s home turf. Pearl, who stands at just 3.59 inches tall, comes from a proud legacy of pint-sized pooches. Her aunt Millie held the same title before passing away in 2020. Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler, never expected to reclaim the title—but life had other plans. Reginald, affectionately called Reggie, measures an astounding 3-foot-3 and has been turning heads since he was just nine months old.

Gentle Giant Meets Petite Diva
Despite the staggering height difference, the two dogs got along beautifully. Semler admitted she was nervous at first. Pearl might be fearless, but Reginald’s sheer size was enough to give anyone pause. To her surprise, Reggie was not only careful—he was incredibly aware of the tiny dog beneath him. “He was very cautious, like he didn’t step on her or anything,” said Reggie’s owner, Sam Johnson Reiss. While Reginald was more interested in the Guinness film crew, he was gentle and polite with Pearl, never once forgetting how small she was.

More Than Size, They Shared Personality
Reggie may be big, but he’s a diva in his own right—just like Pearl. According to Reiss, Reggie is cheeky, mischievous, and has no trouble letting people know when he wants something. Meanwhile, Pearl picks her own outfits by placing her paw on her chosen ensemble each day. With media interest flooding in, her fashion-forward ways have earned her a reputation beyond just her size. “Now she’s a diva for everyone,” Semler laughed. It was diva meets diva—just one was a hundred times bigger.
Two Dogs, One Friendship That Defied Expectations
While there may have been a bit of toy jealousy and side-eye over beds, the dogs ultimately found joy in one another’s company. Over their two days together, they scampered around the farm, shared space, and earned a permanent place in each other’s stories. “I think she found a good friend,” said Semler. In a world obsessed with records and extremes, this unlikely friendship is proof that the biggest hearts—and personalities—can come in any size.
