F1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix live updates: Follow latest from today’s race with Max Verstappen on pole

F1 racing in Saudi Arabia has not been without its controversy, given the country’s human rights record. Still, the sport is back again at the street circuit nestled within Corniche: a Red Sea coastal resort area in Jeddah.

Tilke, a name known throughout F1 for its track designs, was behind the creation of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Using Google Earth to brainstorm possible track layouts, the company and F1’s motorsports team delivered one of F1’s fastest circuits and one of the quickest built.

Working to avoid the start-stop nature of a routine street circuit, they landed on a thrilling 27-turn layout. It is the track with the most corners on F1’s calendar.

There are points that invite wheel-to-wheel racing, it’s also a track where you need to be on it throughout the lap, and the drivers appear to like it too.

Key circuit facts include:

  • Circuit length: 6.17 km (3.84 miles)
  • Laps: 50
  • Lap record: 1m30.734s (Lewis Hamilton, 2021)
  • First GP: 2021

You can take a trip around Jeddah Corniche in Madeline Coleman’s circuit breakdown, which is linked below.
