While heading to a medical appointment in Phoenix, Arizona, Dyesa and her friend noticed something unexpected near the entrance of a grocery store. Inside a shopping cart sat a small, anxious-looking puppy. Concerned, the two women approached to check on the young dog.
The puppy, who appeared nervous at first, quickly warmed up to the pair. Sensing their kindness, he seemed comforted by their presence. Curious about the situation, they asked store employees if they knew anything about the dog’s background. According to staff, the little pup had been sitting outside since early that morning, around 5 a.m., with no sign of an owner.
A Kind Act Leads to Rescue
Believing the dog had been left behind, the women decided they couldn’t walk away. They offered him food and wrapped him in a jacket to shield him from the chilly air. They named him Herbert and reached out to Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, who soon took him into their care.
Later that same day, on November 21, 2024, Dyesa uploaded a video on her TikTok account, sharing Herbert’s story in the hopes that someone would step up and give him a home. The video drew attention quickly. Many viewers expressed concern that no one at the store had stepped in to help the poor dog, and some were angry at the thought that someone had abandoned him.

But as it turned out, the situation wasn’t what everyone initially thought.
Clearing Up the Confusion
A few days later, Dyesa posted a follow-up, revealing the truth about Herbert’s situation. “The dog ran out of the house, and the owner couldn’t locate him,” she wrote in a comment. Somehow, the puppy had ended up in the shopping cart, though no one could explain exactly how.
His owner had been desperately searching for him, calling every nearby shelter, but hadn’t found him due to a required three-day stray hold that delayed Herbert’s information from being listed in the shelter’s system.
Fortunately, the situation took a positive turn when a friend of the owner saw Dyesa’s TikTok and immediately passed it along.
An Emotional Reunion
Overjoyed to discover his dog was safe, Herbert’s real owner went straight to the shelter. Coincidentally, Dyesa happened to be visiting Herbert at the same time and witnessed the heartwarming reunion firsthand.
As soon as the puppy spotted his dad, he lit up with excitement, leaping joyfully and wagging his tail nonstop. His real name, Roy, was soon revealed.
Back at home, Roy wasn’t the only one happy to return. His canine sibling had missed him deeply, and the two were thrilled to be reunited.
Roy’s owner was beyond thankful to Dyesa—not just for helping his dog in a moment of need but for sharing the video that ultimately led to their reunion.
