A Foster Brother Like No Other
Ruhn has always embraced life with joy and energy, even though he’s had only three legs since he was a puppy. As a tripod dog, he’s never let his condition slow him down. In fact, Ruhn is a force of nature—running, digging, and outpacing many four-legged dogs with ease. Over the past year, he’s welcomed and mentored 11 foster dogs into his home, always happy to lend a paw. But when his mom, Brittany Ketcham, brought home a very special foster, something extraordinary happened.
Meeting Tricycle: A Familiar Hop
When Mae’s Mutts Rescue put out a call for fosters for a new litter, Brittany wasn’t planning to take another in. With 12 permanent dogs, her hands were full. But when she learned that one of the puppies was also a tripod, she knew she had to say yes. That puppy was Tricycle. The moment Ruhn met him, there was an instant connection. For the first time, Ruhn saw another dog moving just like he did—and he couldn’t contain his excitement.
A Bond Built on Shared Strength
Ruhn immediately began to play with Tricycle, encouraging him to hop around and explore. Tricycle had been struggling a bit with his mobility, unsure of how to move confidently with just three legs. But Ruhn stepped in as the perfect mentor. He gently guided his new friend, circling back when Tricycle lagged behind, showing him how to hop, run, and even dig using just one front leg. The two quickly formed a bond, learning from one another and thriving in their shared experiences.
More Than Just a Foster
While Ruhn has always loved every foster dog he’s met, there’s something deeply meaningful about having a friend who truly understands him. Ruhn’s joy in seeing another dog like him is unmistakable, and his support has made a world of difference for little Tricycle. With Ruhn by his side, Tricycle isn’t just learning to walk—he’s learning to live boldly. And thanks to this beautiful friendship, both pups are proving that nothing—not even a missing leg—can hold them back from love, joy, and adventure.
