Selena Gomez and her fiancé, music producer Benny Blanco, recently appeared on the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast and candidly spoke about their album ‘I Said I Love You First‘, dealing with online negativity, and more.
Speaking of the latter, Benny admitted that he avoids reading negative comments, whereas Selena shared that she gets ‘a tad bitter’ when her weight becomes a topic of discussion online. “I was going to point out that women have it much worse. From my perspective, it’s pretty wild, and I think this isn’t news to anybody, that obviously women have a lot more intense feelings from their appearance to what they’re wearing to everything,” Gomez said.
The ‘Only murders In The Building’ star added that she comes across negative comments about her body sometimes and ‘can’t help but see them’. “When I get prepared for an event, 90 percent of the time I’m just like, ‘I just hope I can take the picture and sit down.’ It’s the character that gets judged, it’s the way I’m not white enough, I’m not Mexican enough,” Gomez added.
Addressing the criticism for her weight, Selena said, “Everything just has something to say and it’s really making me sad and not even sad ’cause, I’m not a victim, everyone – I just think it’s made me a tad bitter and I feel really guilty for saying that, but it’s true.”
The ‘Sunset Blvd’ singer went on to add that she has found ways to stay away from the negativity. “I don’t have anything on my phone at the moment,” she added.
Selena and Benny’s joint album ‘I Said I Love You First‘ was released on March 21, 2025. It consists of 14 songs, including ‘Call Me When You Break Up‘, ‘Younger and Hotter Than Me‘, ‘You Said You Were Sorry‘, and ‘Sunset Blvd‘.
