Man Builds ‘Dog Train’ Then Takes Stray Pups On Adventurous Train Ride They Won’t Forget
A Compassionate Mission
Sometimes, the most meaningful work a person can do isn’t through their full-time job but rather through their passions and willingness to help others. Eugene Bostick retired almost 20 years ago, but his real calling didn’t come until he saw a group of stray dogs wandering the streets alone.
Living in a less populated area in Fort Worth, Texas, Eugene constantly witnessed heartless individuals dumping their unwanted pets near his property. It pained him to see these confused animals searching for their owners, unsure why they had been abandoned. Without access to food, water, or shelter, their fate seemed grim.
A Unique Solution
Instead of turning away, Eugene and his brother Corkey took action.
“We live down on a dead-end street where me and my brother have a horse barn. People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve. So, we started feeding them, letting them in, taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live.”
But Eugene wanted to do more for these dogs. He knew they deserved more than just food and shelter; they deserved joy. That’s when he got a brilliant idea.
“One day, I was out, and I saw a guy with a tractor pulling some carts filled with rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train.’”
With his welding skills, Eugene repurposed plastic barrels, cut holes in them, added wheels, and connected them together to create a one-of-a-kind dog train.
A Ride They’ll Never Forget
Twice a week, Eugene loads the eager pups into their designated barrels, secures them with safety harnesses, and takes them on a ride through the woods and along the creek.
“Whenever they hear me hooking the tractor up to it, man, they get so excited. They all come running and jump in on their own. They’re ready to go.”
The dog train quickly became a local attraction, drawing smiles from everyone who saw it. One onlooker, Tiffany Johnson, was so touched by Eugene’s efforts that she created a GoFundMe campaign to help with vet bills, food, and supplies. The fundraiser raised over $16,000—all thanks to generous animal lovers.
The Power of Compassion
Despite his age, Eugene is determined to keep the train running as long as he can. The dogs bring him just as much joy as he brings them.
“I’m getting up in age … so I suppose it can’t last too much longer, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can. The dogs have a great time. They just really enjoy it.”
Thanks to Eugene’s kindness, these once-forgotten dogs now live happy, fulfilling lives filled with adventure and love.
