The Athletic’s instant analysis:
Can the new rule stop players from flopping?
This potential change is dominated by a new flop regulation. When they see someone flopping during a game, it’s a topic of conversation. It’s not that prevalent but it does get outsized attention. We’ll see how this rule will work in actuality but it should help curb some of that acting on the court. This will put an even larger burden on referees to make sure they call flops appropriately, since it’s no longer just a foul call but also a free throw on top.
Will this really stop people from flopping down? It remains to be determined, but if caught it will certainly make it more painful. — Vorkunov
What to make of coach’s challenge tweak
The NBA was so pleased with the success of the first challenge that they wanted to do it again. This would fix the unfairness of not being able to challenge if you win or lose. As all leagues, the NBA should be careful not to slow down a game by adding another stoppage and review. — Vorkunov
