“Beef,” one of Netflix’s greatest shows, is all about chemistry.

It’s been a very long time since Netflix has produced a show as great.

BeefThe creative union of the streaming site with a cult film production house is called ”. A24The film stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as two lost adults who discover purpose in their all-consuming feud. Danny (Yeun), who is a failed contractor, and Amy Wong, an entrepreneur by trade, meet in a road-rage incident. They are one gas-stomp away of basically killing each other.

What ensues instead is a lawless boxing match between the two that gradually becomes a black hole vacuuming in everyone in their lives, as they try to knock each other out by any means necessary — no matter the collateral (or emotional) damage. However, Amy and Danny’s fight eventually puts a microscope in their own lives as we start to see the truth. BeefIt is trying to tell the truth about these two people and their lives that brought them to this point of animosity.

The tone BeefThe first episode of the series may make you believe you’re in for a dark comedy full of gimmicks. But, the show is trying to bring out deeper themes such as finding happiness and meaning, and not blaming parents for our mistakes.

As vivid as the paintings that open each episode, Beef is a large canvas of two people with the not-so pleasant details of their lives excruciatingly enclosing around them — creating a stunning portrait of the cost of empathy and a story that’ll linger with you long after its credits finish rolling.

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun have a chemistry that is truly amazing.

What is the secret to success? BeefIt is easy to binge on the pure energy radiating from Yeun & Wong’s performances. They effortlessly transition seamlessly from comic moments that are necessary for the show to breathe to touching confessions that will make you cry, to total ferociousness and empathy that still allows them to empathize. Their performance showcases a unique character chemistry that is grounding. BeefIt’s all about making the whirlwind conflict seem completely plausible.

Danny and Amy may start out as foils, but they eventually become mirrors to each other, with Yeun and Wong infusing their evolution with so much authenticity and gravitas that they triumph over any other enemy-to-friends-then-back-to-enemy pipeline you’ve ever seen. The true charm of BeefIt’s watching Danny and Amy together in their moments, between fighting, that you will feel like they are two magnets. They resist each other with a tiny distance that will quickly close up when one of them flips over. For the vast majority of BeefIt’s like asking one of them to turn.

These two know more than their friends over years and that knowledge can either be used for compassion or blackmail. BeefThis emotional journey takes you through Danny and Amy’s constant push-and-pull, where you will find yourself praising them, falling in LOVE with them, and wanting more after the final.

BeefIt is all about our choices.

Yeun’s character is aptly titled in Beef“You’re born.” This is the end of’s last episode. You can make your own choices. Then, suddenly, you are here.”

BeefThis article examines the costs of two important choices that we have all made in our lives: having a child by our parents and deciding what we want to be. These two choices are the source of much of the tension in BeefWith Amy and Danny’s insecurity trickling down (or upwards) to their relationship, their parents are also affected. Amy is afraid that she will be like her parents and make the same mistakes. Danny is afraid of disappointing his parents and not being enough.

BeefUnpacking the complexity of parental disappointment, he reveals that no choice will ever satisfy everyone around him. You can do whatever you want, and maybe one day someone will understand why.

Who do we make choices for? What is the best time to make choices for yourself? What is the cost of these choices? These are the questions string BeefIt’s storytelling all together as we see Danny and Amy struggle with everything they have done, from the road rage incident that ended their lives to their futures. This is Netflix’s most innovative show and easily compares to HBO’s. It is chaos to be enjoyed. Enjoy Amy and Danny’s fun. You will fall in love with them.
