Pep Guardiola said that Liverpool fans hurled coins at him in the wake of Manchester City’s goal being disallowed at Anfield.
Phil Foden was brought in from a narrow angle after Alisson, Reds goalkeeper, lost the ball during a 50-50 challenge against Erling Haaland.
Liverpool players immediately surrounded referee Anthony Taylor, claiming that Alisson was kicked out of the ball by Haaland.
Taylor was advised to examine his pitchside monitor, but instead was told to focus on an incident involving Haaland earlier in the move.
The Norwegian got in a tangle with Fabinho before his challenge on Alisson and replays show Haaland had a large chunk of the Brazilian’s shirt, which sent him to the ground.
Guardiola was furious that the goal had been disallowed.
Guardiola then appeared to react to Liverpool fans following him, waving his hands in the air to try to get them to boo him louder.
However, it’s since been claimed by Guardiola that objects, including coins were thrown at him.
On coins being thrown at him, Guardiola said after the match: “This is Anfield, every time you come here lately unfortunately this is Anfield.
“We played a really good game but this is a game where there are really fine margins and the mistakes are punished. We made a mistake and we cannot concede and that’s why we lost the game.
“We played to beat Liverpool today, definitely we played for that. The crowd booed after 1-0, but we yelled louder on the pitch.
“The referee said play on, play on, play on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one is because we scored a goal. The goal was scored and disallowed.
“We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield.
“The crowd tried [to throw coins/objects] but they didn’t touch me. Maybe next time they will be better.”
