TruecallerThe popular caller ID and spam reporting app, Truecaller Assistant, has a new feature that inspects calls and responds to basic questions. It also handles scut work. Called Truecaller Assistant, the feature takes over the tedious parts of phone calls, especially when you don’t want to deal with spam — or worse — scam calls.
Truecaller’s announcement comes just days after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC confirmedIn response to numerous complaints, it had previously approved a long-standing proposal for blocking unwanted promotional texts. The federal agency will cooperate with mobile operators in order to identify spamming numbers and to educate users. The approach is primarily text-based and will not lead to any illegal action against spam calls.
Truecaller assistant can come in handy here. The Assistant is available for Android users and iPhone users. Users can delegate responsibility for receiving calls from unknown number. The company claims that the Assistant can interpret verbal requests of callers with 90% accuracy. You can either give the Assistant complete control or use conversation prompts.
The Assistant will not only call a caller for you, but also transcribe the conversation for you to read. These transcriptions can be accessed later and are saved on the phone. The transcription will be stopped automatically if a user intervenes. In future updates, the app is set to get a recording feature that will allow conversations with the Assistant and the user themselves to be recorded — in compliance with regulations in two-party states.
The app features functionality similar that what Google announced in 2018. Truecaller transcends its limitations and brings functionality to almost all Android and iOS devices.
Truecaller assistant will be available as an optional paid feature within Truecaller Premium. This starts at $3 Monthly. Users on both mobile platforms can also get a 14-day trial free of charge. This service will initially be offered in the U.S., with English support. It will later be expanded to other countries.
