Ivan Toney sees funny side of Arsenal players’ tweets after wins over Brentford: ‘I wanted to nibble but fair play, they played very well’

Ivan ToneyHas been able to see the humorous side of recent social-media posts ArsenalThe players who made fun of the Brentford striker.

Toney, 26, tweeted “nice kick about with the boys” in the wake of Brentford’s 2-0 opening day victory at home against Arsenal in August 2021.

However, Arsenal has been a losing team to the west London club twice since then: a 2-1 home defeat in February and a Sunday 3-0 defeat at home.

Former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette mocked Toney’s tweet on social media following February’s win. Similarly, Gabriel replicated Toney’s “nice kick about with the lads” tweet after Arsenal’s victory on Sunday.

Toney joked about the incidents on Tuesday, saying, “I think once was funny, second time a bit cringey, but I bit my tongue.

“I wanted to reply, I wanted to nibble but fair play to them they played very well.

“They are a different Arsenal side to what we played before and they played very well, fair play to them, they are doing well.”

Toney spoke while on duty. EnglandHis first call-up to national side.

The striker also said he “never doubted” he would reach the top and earn an England call-upEven though he was playing in lower divisions.

England play ItalyAnd GermanyOn Friday and Monday, in the Nations League.
