Gennady Glovkin was not beaten by Canelo, Alvarez won unanimously in Las Vegas on Saturday night. However, there was once more controversy about the scorecards.
GGG lost their fight against the judge in 2017.
The 2018 rematch was very close and contentious. Canelo won a majority decision.
In The 2022 TrilogyThere was no doubt that the victor had been chosen.
Canelo won the fight in the early stages.
Golovkin did not offer much in the first period, with the Mexican winning every round according to many ringside journalists’ scorecards.
GGG made a late comeback, taking control of round nine and making the sessions more competitive.
Many people believed that this was despite all of the above. CaneloHad done enough to win 10 or 11, depending on how many rounds they were played.
It was remarkable that the scorecards could be read out at 116-112, 115-23, 115-113 and 115-113.
This means one judge scored it 8-4, while two of the others had it 7-5 – an incredibly generous verdict for Golovkin.
Even more remarkably, two of the three judges didn’t even score round nine for GGG, despite the fact this appeared to be the round he performed best in.
The right man won, and Canelo kept his WBA, WBC (IBF, WBO) and WBO super-middleweight title.
