And lastly, the biggest story by far of last night’s first round was who didn’t get picked — Shedeur Sanders, the flashy Colorado quarterback and son of NFL legend/Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders. At one point this spring, Sanders was widely expected to be selected within the top 10 and even challenge Ward for the title of best quarterback in this draft class. But television coverage instead kept looking in on an increasingly uncomfortable draft party in Sanders’ native Texas as he fell out of the first round entirely.
“We all didn’t expect this of course but I feel like with God anything is possible, everything is possible,” Sanders told the partygoers in a video posted to his father’s social media. “I don’t feel like this happened for no reason. All this is, is of course fuel to the fire. … We understand we’re onto bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We’re going to be happy regardless. Legendary.”
