18-Year-Old Runaway Dog Rings Doorbell of Owner’s House in the Middle of the Night to Alert Them She’s Returned

A Late-Night Surprise

We should never underestimate a dog’s observation skills or its ability to surprise us.

This is the case for an 18-year-old rescue pup named Rajah, who gave her owners a whirlwind of emotions one summer night.

It all started on the Fourth of July, when fireworks sent Rajah running in fear.

Her owners, Mary Lynn Whitacre and Ryan Washick from Simpsonville, South Carolina, lost sight of her after she jumped their backyard fence and disappeared.

A Frantic Search

Mary Lynn and Ryan immediately went searching for Rajah. They drove around for hours calling her name and hoping she would return home.

“She had run off before,” Mary Lynn said, “but she always came back in a few minutes.”

They even posted about her on social media, hoping someone might have seen their missing dog.

But as night fell, Rajah was still nowhere to be found.

Then, something incredible happened.

An Unexpected Doorbell Ring

At 2:30 AM, Ryan heard a scratch at the front door—and then the unmistakable sound of their Ring doorbell chiming.

They rushed to the door and couldn’t believe their eyes. Rajah was home!

Somehow, after more than 10 hours missing, Rajah had found her way back—and had even learned how to ring the doorbell!

The Funniest Homecoming

The Ring doorbell camera captured the hilarious moment Rajah pressed the button with her snout and then stared directly into the camera as if to say,
“I’m home! Let me in!”

When Ryan and Mary Lynn watched the footage, they burst into laughter.

“We were dying laughing!” Mary Lynn said.

It was as if Rajah had taught herself how to use the doorbell just in time for her grand return.

A Happy Ending

When Ryan finally opened the door, Rajah stood there covered in mud, looking up as if she had quite the adventure.

“Apparently, she got over the fireworks and decided to have a little adventure. But she made it back!” Mary Lynn shared.

She’s a pretty smart gal.
